About the role
Baseten powers inference infrastructure for leading AI companies including Cursor, Notion, Abridge, and Writer. The platform combines applied AI research, flexible compute systems, and developer-focused tooling to help frontier AI teams deploy cutting-edge models to production. Having recently closed a $1.5B Series F led by Altimeter Capital, Conviction Partners, and Spark Capital, Baseten is scaling rapidly and looking for talented people to strengthen its engineering and product capabilities.
Baseten is building the next generation of AI infrastructure by making model serving reliable, fast, and accessible to thousands of developers. The company's platform handles inference at scale, serving billions of requests across diverse model architectures and use cases. As an infrastructure company serving the AI community, Baseten combines deep technical expertise with a focus on the developer experience—understanding what practitioners need to ship production AI systems efficiently.
You'll join as a Product Data Scientist in the General and Administrative function, based in San Francisco on a hybrid schedule. This is a foundational role where you'll establish how Baseten uses data for product decision-making. You'll work directly with founders, product, and engineering teams to define measurement strategies, run experiments, and translate insights into roadmap priorities. Product is a new function at Baseten, and you'll help shape how the organization thinks about success metrics and data-driven strategy.
What you'll do
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering to translate business questions into quantifiable success criteria and analyses that inform roadmap and prioritization decisions.
- Define and track product success metrics across activation, adoption, retention, expansion, reliability, and developer experience dimensions.
- Design measurement frameworks for feature launches, analyze A/B tests and controlled rollouts, and synthesize results into actionable product recommendations.
- Analyze enterprise customer journeys and measure feature adoption across customer segments and lifecycle stages.
- Evaluate system performance through traffic pattern analysis, measuring deployment behavior including warm-up, drain, probe, and rollback outcomes, while tracking mean time to recovery and self-serve incident resolution.
- Build centralized reporting and self-serve analytics tools that enable data-driven decision making across the organization.
What you'll bring
- At least 5 years of experience in product data science, product analytics, or quantitative roles, preferably on developer platforms, APIs, or B2B infrastructure products.
- Advanced SQL and Python proficiency with demonstrated ability to work with large event-level datasets and deliver analysis ready for strategic decisions.
- Strong statistical foundation with hands-on experimentation expertise including test design, power analysis, and judgment about when to act on directional evidence.
- Practical forecasting experience using ARIMA, Prophet, or similar time-series methods, with discipline around backtesting, error assessment, and scenario modeling.
- Experience building medallion data architectures spanning raw, conformed, and business-ready data layers with appropriate testing, documentation, and lineage tracking.
- Competency with dbt, semantic layers, data ontology, and BI platforms such as Sigma or Hex.
Nice to have
- Background in AI/ML infrastructure, model serving, GPU systems, or observability for distributed platforms.
- Knowledge of usage-based pricing models, API economics, platform unit economics, capacity planning, or enterprise product analytics.
- Familiarity with model-serving frameworks like vLLM, SGLang, or Dynamo.
What they offer
- Competitive salary with meaningful equity participation.
- 100% employer coverage of medical, dental, and vision insurance for you and dependents (U.S. only).
- Flexible time off including company-wide Winter Break closure from Christmas Eve through New Year's Day.
- Paid parental leave and fertility and family-building support through Carrot.
- Company-facilitated 401(k) plan (U.S. only).
