Deputy General Counsel - Ethena Pay

Ethena Pay is a live digital currency payments application serving consumers worldwide. As Deputy General Counsel, you will be the primary legal advisor for this product, handling everything from day-to-day counsel through major strategic initiatives. This is a hands-on role with substantial scope to expand as both the product and legal function mature.

What you'll do

• Serve as primary legal and compliance counsel for Ethena Pay, managing terms of service, product disclosures, marketing review, privacy compliance and new feature launches.

• Map regulatory requirements and maintain an obligations register across all markets where Ethena Pay operates.

• Partner with the Compliance team to design and strengthen the compliance framework, including AML/KYC procedures, sanctions screening, complaint handling and responses to regulatory or law enforcement inquiries.

• Negotiate and oversee agreements with card issuers, on-ramp providers, KYC vendors and infrastructure partners.

• Lead the company's licensing and registration strategy across new markets, coordinating with external counsel and regulatory bodies.

• Develop operational playbooks and build out the legal and compliance team as the function scales.

What you'll bring

• Substantial in-house legal experience in fintech or payments, with proven ability to move between strategic and tactical work.

• Direct experience as counsel to a consumer product like a neobank, crypto wallet or card program.

• Demonstrated expertise negotiating with crypto-native partners, including card issuers and on-ramp providers.

• Hands-on background overseeing or building a payments or fintech compliance function.

• Strong commercial judgment, clear communication and pragmatic problem-solving.

• Familiarity with or practical experience in stablecoins and cryptocurrency payments.
