About the role
Anthropic is building reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems with a mission to ensure AI remains safe and beneficial. The company operates at the intersection of cutting-edge technology and complex legal challenges, from landmark intellectual property cases to emerging regulatory frameworks across multiple jurisdictions. As Anthropic scales rapidly, the legal team faces growing discovery and information governance demands that require specialized technical and operational expertise.
The Litigation and Regulatory team is seeking a Discovery Technical Operations Specialist to establish and manage discovery operations from the ground up while supporting active legal matters and regulatory inquiries. This role sits at the heart of mission-critical work for one of the world's most closely watched AI companies. You will partner with discovery leads, in-house counsel, outside counsel, discovery vendors, and cross-functional teams including Security and IT to oversee the full lifecycle of electronically stored information—from retention and preservation through collection, processing, hosting, review, and production—while managing novel and AI-specific data types. Beyond individual matters, you will help build Anthropic's broader information governance program, including data classification standards and defensible disposal practices tailored to a rapidly scaling AI company.
What you'll do
- Manage the complete EDRM lifecycle including preservation, collection, processing, hosting, review, and production across modern enterprise data sources like Slack, Google Workspace, mobile systems, and internal engineering platforms
- Design and execute the legal hold program, handling custodian identification, hold issuance and tracking, re-notification, acknowledgments, and defensible release workflows
- Administer and improve the discovery technology stack centered on RelativityOne, including configuration, access controls, templates, and analytics platforms
- Coordinate across discovery team, counsel, vendors, and internal technical teams to manage matter execution, status reporting, and escalations
- Partner with Security, IT, and product engineering to map Anthropic's data landscape and instrument new data sources for hold and collection capabilities
- Develop and maintain information governance programs, including retention schedule execution, classification rollout, defensible disposition workflows, and data inventory tracking
- Integrate AI and automation into discovery workflows, including generative-AI-assisted review, advanced analytics, custom Relativity applications, and agentic automation for intake and reporting
- Support active litigation, government investigations, and regulatory inquiries as the operational lead, coordinating workstreams and surfacing operational risks and cost considerations to counsel
- Design internal tools and dashboards to streamline legal holds, preservation, collection, and production workflows while tracking data management trends
What you'll bring
- Hands-on experience across the full EDRM lifecycle with demonstrated ownership of complex discovery operations in an in-house legal department, government agency, law firm, or vendor environment
- Working knowledge of major discovery platforms including RelativityOne administration, search and analytics, AI and TAR workflows, and custom application development
- Strong understanding of the Federal Rules on discovery and evidence, ESI preservation obligations, and proportionality with the operational fluency to translate legal requirements into workflows
- Experience operating discovery across modern enterprise data sources and bringing novel data sources under preservation and collection
- Proven project management skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent matters and programs under tight deadlines with precision and composure
- Demonstrated ability to explain technical discovery concepts clearly to attorneys, executives, engineers, and non-technical stakeholders
- Strong communication and partnership instincts to work effectively across legal, technical, and business teams
Nice to have
- Six or more years of hands-on discovery experience across the full EDRM lifecycle
- Experience building discovery operations at a young or fast-scaling company, particularly with novel types of electronically stored information
- Background embedding with engineering or product teams to define discovery requirements and ship hold-capable and collection-capable features into enterprise tools
- Hands-on experience integrating generative AI and agentic workflows like Claude into discovery operational work, project tracking, and custom tooling
