The Legal team is searching for a Product Counsel to serve as the dedicated legal partner across MoonPay's expanding product lines. You'll advise on two interconnected mandates: the DeFi products (DEX routing and aggregation, non-custodial wallet infrastructure, AI-powered agent integrations) and regulated crypto asset services (exchange services, digital asset custody, stablecoin issuance, stablecoin card services). This role bridges the gap between decentralized protocol integrations and MoonPay's regulated entity footprint, enabling the company to move quickly without compromising legal rigor.

What you'll do

• Provide full lifecycle legal counsel for DeFi product teams, from concept through development, launch, and scaling. You'll analyze SEC, CFTC, and FinCEN frameworks for DEX routing, smart order routing, and aggregation features across multiple chains and jurisdictions.
• Support the non-custodial wallet product line by advising on MPC key management architecture, chain abstraction, self-custody user flows, and consumer protection obligations.
• Counsel on AI agents and autonomous payment integrations, including the legal treatment of agentic transactions, user authorization structures, and the regulatory landscape for AI-driven financial services.
• Navigate the interface between MoonPay's licensed entities (including U.S. money transmission licenses, NYDFS BitLicense, and trust company charter) and decentralized product features.
• Monitor regulatory developments across key jurisdictions. Translate emerging rules into actionable product guidance and partner with Regulatory Affairs on strategic positioning.
• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements: protocol integration deals, API and SDK licenses, routing and liquidity provider arrangements, and partnership contracts.
• Build scalable legal review frameworks and playbooks so product and compliance teams can handle routine questions independently.

What you'll bring

• JD or equivalent degree with active bar membership in at least one jurisdiction.
• 6+ years of legal experience, with meaningful in-house tenure at a crypto, DeFi, fintech, or regulated financial services organization.
• Genuine fluency in both decentralized and regulated finance. You develop well-reasoned, risk-calibrated perspectives quickly and communicate them with clarity.
• Ability to be a true thought partner to engineering and product teams, not a gatekeeper. You thrive on hard problems and real ownership.
• Experience advising on digital asset services, stablecoins, exchange regulations, or emerging technologies is a strong plus.
• Comfort working cross-functionally with Compliance, Risk, Regulatory Affairs, and Engineering in a high-velocity environment.

Nice to have

• Background in securities, derivatives, or banking regulation.
• Prior exposure to multi-jurisdictional regulatory frameworks or licensing work.
• Experience with smart contracts or blockchain architecture fundamentals.

This is a hybrid, full-time role based in New York.
