Senior Software Engineer, Compute Platform

Replit's distributed systems and cloud infrastructure team is building the backbone that powers AI-driven development. The platform needs engineers who can design and optimize the systems that handle deployment, scaling, and resource management at global scale. You'll work on foundational problems that directly impact how developers experience building on Replit.

What you'll do

• Build and launch new cloud infrastructure products that enable Replit Agent and developers to create complex applications, collaborating across teams to design systems that provide comprehensive deployment and development capabilities.

• Identify performance bottlenecks and optimize critical system paths, working with the SRE team to implement monitoring and alerting that ensures high availability and minimal downtime.

• Enable application scaling by designing systems that allow Replit users to grow their deployments as their user bases expand.

• Reduce infrastructure costs by analyzing cloud spending patterns, implementing optimization strategies such as smart resource provisioning, auto-scaling, cost-aware scheduling, and data lifecycle management without sacrificing performance or reliability.

• Participate in the on-call rotation for a team of six engineers, taking ownership of incident response and system reliability.

What you'll bring

• Proven experience building distributed systems, platform-as-a-service products, or distributed storage solutions, with demonstrated ability to design scalable architectures and optimize for latency or cost.

• A pragmatic problem-solving approach where you think strategically but ship incrementally, breaking down complex challenges into manageable solutions.

• Self-directed work style with the ability to set priorities independently, drive projects forward, and take ownership without constant guidance.

• Comfort working across the full stack, from Linux internals to application layers, adapting flexibly to project needs.

• Strong proficiency in Golang or Rust and a commitment to staying current with infrastructure and cloud technology trends.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform services including GCE, GKE, Cloud Run, and Cloud Storage.

• Background in cloud infrastructure, serverless computing, or container orchestration platforms.

• Open-source contributions to cloud, deployment, or developer tooling projects.
