Good to know
- London has no city income tax: you pay UK Income Tax and National Insurance only.
- The £12,570 Personal Allowance shrinks by £1 for every £2 earned over £100,000, and is gone at £125,140. That makes pay between £100,000 and £125,140 taxed at an effective 60%.
- Employees pay 8% National Insurance on pay between £12,570 and £50,270 and 2% above. Self-employed people pay Class 4 at 6% and 2% on profits (and Class 2 is voluntary).
- Scotland has its own Income Tax rates. This calculator uses the rates for England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
- Not included: pension contributions (salary sacrifice lowers tax), student loan repayments, the High Income Child Benefit Charge, and expenses for the self-employed.
- Tax year. 2026/27 tax year (6 April 2026 to 5 April 2027).
