About the role
Databricks is a unified data and AI platform that helps organizations harness the power of their data. The company is scaling rapidly and building world-class financial operations to match. This role brings together finance expertise and modern technology to transform how Databricks operates its accounting function, combining SAP expertise with the company's own advanced data platform.
About Databricks
Databricks has emerged as a leader in the generative AI and data analytics space, powering some of the world's most data-intensive organizations. The company's platform enables enterprises to build and deploy AI applications at scale, and Databricks itself operates with the same principles it sells to customers. This position reflects that philosophy: you will help Databricks become a reference customer for its own technology while modernizing the accounting operations that keep the business running.
What you'll do
- Act as the accounting team's in-house expert on SAP S/4HANA during implementation, working with system integrators to ensure design decisions follow best practice rather than replicating legacy NetSuite processes, and challenge configurations that don't leverage SAP's native capabilities.
- Own accounting team requirements, testing and approval across core finance modules including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets and close management, partnering with IT and finance transformation on data migration and master data design.
- Build and maintain the continuous improvement roadmap post-launch, identifying automation opportunities, simplifying close processes, monitoring system performance, and reducing manual steps with each accounting cycle.
- Design and govern how accounting data flows from SAP into the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform, defining extraction patterns and data models that support financial reporting, analytics and AI use cases like anomaly detection and predictive accruals.
- Collaborate across Tax, Treasury, FP&A and Procurement to ensure SAP configuration serves end-to-end finance processes, and ensure SOX-relevant system controls are properly configured and documented.
- Identify ways to leverage Databricks' AI capabilities on accounting data, such as automated reconciliation matching and natural-language financial reporting, positioning Databricks as a best-practice customer for its own platform.
What you'll bring
- 8 or more years of progressive experience in accounting systems, ERP administration or finance technology, with hands-on expertise configuring SAP S/4HANA FICO across all major accounting areas.
- Track record of participating in or leading at least one full SAP S/4HANA implementation from the business or functional perspective, not purely technical.
- Deep understanding of accounting close processes, U.S. GAAP, and how ERP configuration decisions impact financial reporting and compliance.
- Experience with SAP master data governance, chart of accounts design, configuration documentation, SOX control frameworks and segregation of duties.
- Ability to translate between accounting business requirements and SAP technical configuration, comfortable working with both finance teams and technical consultants.
- Strong communication skills to articulate system design trade-offs to senior finance leadership.
- High ownership, attention to detail, and comfort working independently.
Nice to have
- Experience with Databricks or other modern data platforms.
- Prior experience integrating ERP systems with data lakes or analytics platforms.
What they offer
- Full-time position based in Mountain View or San Francisco, California.
