Business Intelligence Lead

OP Labs · New York · Full-time
■ Ops & Legal📍 On-site
$218.7K–246.0K / year

About the role

OP Labs builds and maintains Optimism, a leading Layer 2 blockchain network that processes over 65% of all Layer 2 activity on Ethereum. The company powers financial infrastructure for hundreds of organizations—from major enterprises like Sony, Coinbase, and Kraken to emerging builders launching their own blockchains on the OP stack. Based in New York with backing from a16z and Paradigm, OP Labs is a focused team moving at the pace of the ecosystem it supports.

OP Labs is seeking a Business Intelligence Lead to own the analytics and reporting that drive commercial and strategic decisions across the organization. This senior individual contributor role combines business acumen, blockchain expertise, and strong communication to translate data into actionable insights. You'll report into the Data & Strategy function and work closely with leadership, Sales, Partnerships, Product, and Finance to shape how the company understands its performance and future direction.

What you'll do

  • Design, build, and maintain recurring dashboards and business reviews that track revenue, customer activity, commercial pipeline, and ecosystem trends across OP Enterprise, OP Mainnet, and the Superchain.
  • Partner with leadership and cross-functional teams to identify business questions, scope analysis, and translate findings into concrete decisions and recommendations.
  • Write and maintain analytical SQL, define metrics, validate data quality, and reconcile commercial systems with onchain data sources to ensure accuracy.
  • Analyze customer segments, pipeline conversion rates, revenue concentration, retention patterns, and competitive positioning while explicitly communicating uncertainty.
  • Develop pricing analyses, revenue scenarios, market assessments, and partnership business cases with clear assumptions and sensitivity testing; monitor outcomes after decisions are implemented.
  • Create clear memos, presentations, and visualizations that state findings, supporting evidence, business implications, and recommended actions for senior stakeholders.
  • Monitor crypto market trends, competitive developments, and ecosystem activity—adoption, liquidity, stablecoin flows, fee dynamics—and connect these to customer needs and company economics.
  • Leverage SQL, BI tools, and AI-assisted analysis to improve workflow efficiency while maintaining accountability for accuracy and data lineage.

What you'll bring

  • Six or more years in business analytics, business intelligence, strategy, management consulting, strategic finance, or comparable analytical work.
  • A degree in a relevant field, or equivalent experience. Management consulting background, MBA, or deep crypto industry knowledge all count equally.
  • Proven ability to build financial models and business cases that informed pricing decisions, customer strategy, partnerships, or resource allocation.
  • Hands-on experience owning recurring reporting across multiple business functions, including defining metrics, reconciling data sources, and resolving conflicting interpretations.
  • Strong command of SQL and spreadsheet modeling with the ability to inspect raw data and validate results independently. Python for analysis and automation is valuable.
  • Clear written and verbal communication: you can craft concise executive recommendations, explain uncertainty honestly, and challenge senior stakeholders constructively.
  • Working knowledge of Ethereum, Layer 2 solutions, stablecoins, DeFi, and crypto business models. You understand what onchain metrics reveal and what they don't.
  • Capacity to independently scope ambiguous business problems, prioritize competing demands, manage stakeholders, and drive recommendations to measurable outcomes.
  • Experience using AI tools to accelerate analysis while verifying source data, calculations, and conclusions.

Nice to have

  • Track record working in crypto or blockchain organizations.
  • Familiarity with the OP stack or Optimism ecosystem.

What we offer

  • OP Labs covers 100% of health insurance premiums across medical, dental, and vision options.
  • 401(k) plan with 4% company match.
  • $2,000 annual wellness stipend, $1,000 work-from-home setup stipend, and $1,000 learning budget.
  • Hybrid work arrangement in New York (three days per week in the SoHo office for commercial and growth teams); engineering and technical roles are location-flexible.
  • Competitive salary, performance bonus, and token grants reflecting your contribution to the company's growth.
  • Flexible paid time off with no fixed allotment, plus 14 paid holidays and two company-wide Collective Pause weeks annually (first week of July and the week between Christmas and New Year).
  • Four-week sabbatical after three years, with three weeks paid, and equity vesting throughout.
  • Team travel budgets so remote members can join in-person gatherings in New York; full company offsites twice yearly.
