Compliance Associate

About Paxos

Paxos is rebuilding financial infrastructure from the ground up. The company enables the instant movement of any asset, any time, in a trustworthy way through blockchain technology. For over a decade, Paxos has built the digital asset infrastructure that powers stablecoin issuance, custody, trading and settlement for major financial institutions including PayPal, Venmo, Mastercard, Interactive Brokers and Charles Schwab. The company operates at the intersection of blockchain innovation and traditional finance, serving as a critical bridge between these worlds.

As a digital asset custodian and infrastructure provider, Paxos manages compliance and financial crime prevention at scale across its ecosystem. The Risk & Compliance team is central to protecting the integrity of Paxos' stablecoins and maintaining trust with regulators, law enforcement and institutional partners. This role offers the chance to work on emerging challenges in blockchain-based financial crime detection and prevention.

What you'll do

  • Monitor activity on Paxos-issued stablecoins using blockchain analytics tools, assess alerts, and refer higher-risk cases to senior investigators
  • Conduct initial investigations into suspected suspicious activity by combining KYC data, transaction records, and public information into documented case files with recommendations
  • Execute quarterly forensic reviews of stablecoin transactions to spot patterns, risks and emerging typologies, presenting findings to leadership and audit teams
  • Manage internal referrals and work across real-time monitoring, product, legal and other departments to resolve complex cases
  • Maintain communication channels with law enforcement, regulators and industry partners, ensuring timely and thorough documentation of all interactions
  • Prepare investigation summaries, SAR/STR documentation and case narratives meeting regulatory standards and internal quality requirements
  • Leverage AI tools to improve investigation efficiency through triage, data analysis and drafting, while retaining full accountability for conclusions and outputs
  • Help develop and refine monitoring procedures, investigation playbooks and team training materials
  • Participate in rotating weekend on-call coverage and occasional travel for training, audits or regulatory engagement as required

What you'll bring

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in compliance, financial crime investigations, AML, sanctions, law enforcement or related risk roles; digital asset experience is advantageous
  • Proven ability to analyze substantial transaction datasets, spot patterns and risks, and manage end-to-end investigations with understanding of SAR/STR reporting requirements
  • Familiarity with blockchain analytics tools such as transaction tracing and wallet clustering, or demonstrated ability to master them quickly
  • Background working with law enforcement requests, regulatory inquiries, subpoenas or formal information-sharing protocols strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated skill writing clear, well-organized investigative reports and documentation that satisfy regulatory and internal standards
  • Experience using AI tools to enhance research, analysis, drafting and quality review, or genuine commitment to adopting them routinely
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with capacity to work autonomously, juggle competing priorities and thrive in a fast-paced regulated environment
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, criminal justice, law, data analytics or related discipline, or equivalent professional background in investigations or financial crime compliance

Nice to have

  • Exposure to blockchain technology and digital asset markets
  • Prior experience with stablecoin ecosystems or tokenized asset workflows
  • Background in cryptocurrency or Web3 compliance

What they offer

  • Remote position based in the United States
  • Full-time employment
