Engineering Manager, Clearing, Payments & Risk

Polymarket · New York · Full-time
⌘ Engineering📍 On-site
$350K–500K / year

About the role

Polymarket operates the world's largest prediction market, running a CFTC-regulated exchange and clearinghouse in the United States. The company is expanding its infrastructure to serve a broader customer base and partner ecosystem while managing real money under genuine regulatory constraints. Polymarket's engineering team is lean, experienced, and tightly integrated with business operations.

Polymarket is at the intersection of financial markets, blockchain technology, and regulated derivatives trading. Founded to bring prediction markets into the mainstream, the company has established itself as a leading platform where users can trade on real-world outcomes. The team operates with the rigor and accountability required by financial regulators while moving at the speed of a growth-stage technology company.

You'll join as an Engineering Manager responsible for the systems that custody, clear, and protect customer funds. Your scope covers clearing and settlement infrastructure, the payments stack, real-time risk controls, and leadership of the Futures Commission Merchant program—a cornerstone initiative for the company's regulatory expansion. You'll report directly into a small, senior engineering organization where your work immediately impacts the business and regulatory standing of the firm.

What you'll do

  • Lead end-to-end engineering for the FCM program: customer onboarding, account structures, fund segregation, margin and collateral management, and clearinghouse integration.
  • Operate the clearing engine and post-trade systems including settlement, position and balance tracking, reconciliation, and the underlying ledger infrastructure.
  • Own the deposits and withdrawals flow across bank, card, and wallet channels, including fraud detection, risk checks at authorization, and processor and banking partnerships.
  • Design and deploy real-time risk controls: pre-trade checks, pre-funding validation, exposure limits, and monitoring systems that surface issues before they reach customers or regulators.
  • Partner with Clearing Operations, Treasury, Compliance, Legal, and business leadership to translate regulatory requirements into production systems built for audit.
  • Hire, manage, and develop senior engineers. Set technical standards, manage on-call rotations, and remain hands-on enough to make sound architectural decisions.

What you'll bring

  • Eight or more years of software engineering experience with at least two years managing engineers and a demonstrated track record shipping financial systems in production.
  • Deep subject-matter expertise in at least two of these areas: FCM operations, clearing and settlement, payments infrastructure. Ideally built at an FCM, futures exchange, crypto derivatives platform, broker-dealer, or payments infrastructure company.
  • Working knowledge of CFTC regulations governing customer fund segregation, margining, reconciliation, reporting, and regulatory expectations for the systems producing them.
  • Strong intuition for money-movement correctness: double-entry accounting, idempotent operations, reconciliation across external parties, and graceful failure handling.
  • Ability to lead 0-to-1 builds at startup velocity while maintaining the controls required in a regulated business.
  • Clear communication skills across engineering teams and non-technical stakeholders in operations, finance, and compliance.

Nice to have

  • Experience launching a new FCM, DCO, or derivatives clearing member or shepherding one through regulatory review.
  • Knowledge of margin methodologies such as SPAN models or collateral management systems.
  • Hands-on work with stablecoin or on-chain settlement alongside traditional banking rails.
  • Production experience in Go or other systems languages for high-throughput services.

What they offer

  • Base salary of $350,000 to $500,000 annually, plus equity and benefits based on experience.
  • Unlimited paid time off.
  • Health, vision, and dental insurance coverage plus 401(k) matching.
  • Complete hardware setup including MacBook Pro, large display, and accessories.

Pay, location & hours

$350K–500K / year. Based in New York.
