NPI Buyer/Planner

Figure AI is an artificial intelligence robotics company building autonomous humanoid robots designed to perform diverse tasks across home and commercial environments. The company, headquartered in San Jose, California, is working toward deploying robots with human-level intelligence. Within Figure's BotQ Manufacturing team, you will serve as the NPI Buyer/Planner, bridging engineering innovation and supply chain execution to ensure materials and components are ready for new product builds moving from prototype through mass production.

What you'll do

• Transform engineering build plans and incomplete BOMs into time-phased material requirements across early validation testing, design validation testing, pilot verification testing, and production pilot builds, closing gaps on part numbers, revisions, and quantities before they create bottlenecks.

• Identify long-lead and single-source components early, drive risk-buy and bridge-buy decisions with global supply managers, and maintain a live NPI shortage list that communicates clear-to-build status and recovery timelines to leadership.

• Execute the full RFQ-to-PO cycle for prototype and pilot materials: request quotes, place and confirm purchase orders, track delivery dates, and expedite or de-expedite based on schedule changes while escalating supplier risk with measurable business impact.

• Manage material disposition for engineering change orders and deviations, deciding whether to scrap, rework, use as-is, or run out existing inventory, and maintain accurate BOMs and lead time data as parts transition from prototype to production status.

• Partner with global supply managers on consignment inventory, reconcile Figure-owned material at quick-turn suppliers, and hand off part history, supplier commitments, and planning parameters to the production planning team at ramp.

• Identify recurring failures in the NPI material workflow and implement improvements to reporting, planning processes, and cross-functional handoffs to strengthen build-readiness visibility.

What you'll bring

• 3 to 5 years of buying, planning, or materials management experience with at least 2 years directly supporting new product introductions or prototype builds in complex hardware environments such as robotics, aerospace, medical devices, automotive, or consumer electronics.

• Proven ability to buy against immature BOMs and manage engineering change in live builds; comfort operating with incomplete information and shifting priorities without losing focus.

• Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or NetSuite, plus PLM tools like Arena or Enovia; advanced Excel skills including XLOOKUP, pivot tables, shortage modeling, and coverage analysis.

• Working knowledge of reading and interpreting BOMs, discussing component tolerances and finishes with engineers, and translating technical specifications into material plans.

• Strong communication and follow-through: you close loops independently, translate delayed ETAs into clear schedule impact for leadership, and maintain meticulous attention to detail on revisions, quantities, and dates.

• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience demonstrating the required competencies.

• SQL or business intelligence tooling experience for data analysis and reporting.

• Full-time position with a base salary range of $120,000 to $180,000 per year, based on experience, skills, and qualifications.
