Data Center Engineer, Reliability & Infrastructure Management – Compute Supply

Anthropic · San Francisco, CA, New York City, NY · Full-time
Salary not listed

About the role

Anthropic is building safe and interpretable artificial intelligence systems designed to benefit users and society. The company brings together researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders focused on creating AI that is reliable and aligned with human values. As AI infrastructure demands continue to grow, Anthropic is scaling its compute operations globally.

The Compute team at Anthropic is seeking a Data Center Engineer focused on reliability and infrastructure management. You will work at the intersection of IT operations and facilities engineering, responsible for the systems that keep Anthropic's compute infrastructure running efficiently and reliably. Your technical decisions will influence which data center sites Anthropic leases, what service level agreements the company negotiates, capacity planning strategies, and how compute workloads are distributed across the physical infrastructure.

What you'll do

  • Design and maintain the topology and load management framework for Anthropic's data center fleet, including power and cooling architectures, validating telemetry data against actual building performance and managing load distribution during equipment failures.
  • Build and audit availability models for data center electrical and mechanical systems to define cloud availability zones and failure domains across individual sites and the entire fleet.
  • Develop power consumption models from chip through rack to facility level, accounting for different workloads and hardware generations, to inform capacity planning, infrastructure design, and load forecasting.
  • Engage with data center developers, operators, cloud providers, and chip vendors to drive architectural improvements, conduct technical diligence on their systems, and ensure they meet agreed-upon service level performance standards.
  • Translate technical requirements across infrastructure engineering, software teams, legal, commercial teams, and external partners.

What you'll bring

  • Deep technical knowledge of data center power distribution, cooling architectures, redundancy schemes, and their interaction with IT load profiles.
  • Demonstrated expertise in at least one of these areas: reliability engineering, power modeling and energy scheduling, or load management and controls including telemetry and IT/OT interfaces.
  • Familiarity with SCADA, building management systems, energy management platforms, telemetry pipelines, and control systems that bridge IT and OT environments.
  • A minimum of five years of professional experience in data center infrastructure, facility engineering, or reliability engineering.
  • A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, power systems, reliability engineering, controls engineering, or a related field.
  • A proven ability to collaborate across hardware, software, and facilities teams.

Nice to have

  • Experience with accelerator deployments and their power management interfaces, or with capacity overallocation in large compute fleets.
  • Expertise in more than one of the three focus areas mentioned above.
  • Familiarity with SLA development, availability commitments, or service credit frameworks in commercial contracts.
  • Exposure to energy storage, microgrids, demand response, or distributed generation systems.

What they offer

  • Annual compensation between 320,000 and 405,000 USD.
  • Hybrid work arrangement with expectation of in-office presence at least 25 percent of the time at offices in San Francisco or New York City.
  • Visa sponsorship for qualified candidates.
