Member of Technical Staff (Search Core DevOps Engineer)

The Search Core team at Perplexity is looking for a DevOps engineer to help architect and maintain the systems powering our search platform. This full-time role in Belgrade will have you owning critical infrastructure decisions that directly impact how millions of people search. You'll work with a focused team that bridges world-class AI models with high-performance backend systems, using modern cloud technologies and languages like Python, Go, and Rust.

What you'll do

• Lead the architecture and deployment of highly available systems capable of handling massive scale while maintaining performance
• Build internal tools and utilities that streamline workflows for other engineers across the organization
• Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines and automation that accelerate development cycles and improve system reliability
• Manage and optimize both relational databases like PostgreSQL and distributed systems like DynamoDB and Redis
• Engineer load balancing and scaling solutions for web backends that need to adapt to rapidly fluctuating traffic patterns
• Establish comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and dashboard infrastructure to track system health and catch issues before they impact users
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, scalability challenges, and reliability concerns across the platform

What you'll bring

• Three or more years of hands-on experience in DevOps, site reliability engineering, or systems administration roles
• Proven expertise designing and managing infrastructure on AWS at production scale
• Strong proficiency with containerization and orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes
• Solid grasp of database architecture, including both relational systems and caching layers
• Experience writing infrastructure-as-code using Terraform
• Comfort with Python for scripting and automation
• Excellent analytical and debugging abilities when facing complex technical problems
• Strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with engineering teams
