About the role
Fireworks AI is a Series D AI infrastructure platform founded by the PyTorch team and backed by leading investors including NVIDIA, Sequoia Capital, and AMD. The company enables organizations to build, train, and deploy customized AI models at scale, supporting hundreds of open-source models across text, image, audio, and multimodal workloads. At a valuation of $17.5 billion, Fireworks is growing rapidly and seeking experienced finance professionals to support its expansion.
The Finance team at Fireworks is looking for a Senior General Ledger Accountant to own and develop the company's month-end close and general ledger function. As the business scales, you'll manage the accounting infrastructure for operating expenses and international subsidiaries across APAC and EMEA regions. This is a hands-on role focused on building robust processes, documentation, and internal controls for a high-growth AI infrastructure business.
What you'll do
- Prepare and post journal entries for accruals, prepaids, reclassifications, and fixed asset depreciation within the monthly close calendar.
- Own operating expense accruals by gathering support from Accounts Payable, Procurement, and budget owners, then reconciling against actual results.
- Maintain prepaid schedules and amortization for software subscriptions, cloud commitments, compute spend, and usage-based prepaids.
- Perform monthly variance analysis on operating expense accounts and document the business drivers behind month-to-month changes.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts including cash, prepaids, accrued liabilities, deposits, fixed assets, and intercompany accounts; clear reconciling items with Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Treasury.
- Support international subsidiary close activities, including intercompany transactions, eliminations, and foreign exchange remeasurement.
- Document close procedures and help build SOX-ready controls with clear preparation and evidence standards.
- Identify opportunities to automate manual close steps using ERP functionality and AI-enabled processes.
What you'll bring
- Four to six years of general ledger or corporate accounting experience, ideally in a high-growth technology or SaaS company; public accounting background is a plus.
- Strong foundation in U.S. GAAP and accrual accounting, including prepaid and capitalization policies.
- Hands-on experience owning month-end close tasks such as journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Advanced Excel proficiency and ability to build clean, auditable schedules.
- Systems orientation with ERP experience, preferably NetSuite; familiarity with spend management platforms such as Ramp is helpful.
- Experience supporting external audits and preparing clear supporting documentation.
- Strong communication skills and willingness to partner across Finance, Accounts Payable, Payroll, FP&A, Tax, and Procurement teams.
- Comfort working in a fast-moving environment where systems and processes are still being developed.
Nice to have
- Multi-entity accounting, intercompany transactions, and foreign currency experience.
- Exposure to SOX readiness, internal controls documentation, ERP implementations, or chart-of-accounts redesigns.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or progress toward CPA.
What they offer
- Full-time position based in San Mateo on a hybrid schedule.
- Opportunity to shape financial infrastructure at a rapidly scaling AI company backed by top-tier investors.
- Collaborative environment working alongside world-class engineering and AI research teams.
Pay, location & hours
$135K–155K / year. Based in San Mateo (Hybrid).
