About the role
Suno is building the world's first creative entertainment platform where anyone can experience the joy of making music. From grandmothers creating songs for loved ones to Grammy winners using Suno Studio as their power tool, the platform democratizes music creation for millions. As the fastest-growing consumer entertainment company and leader in AI music, Suno is backed by top-tier investors including Bond Capital, Menlo Ventures, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and others who recognize the company's mission to make music accessible to everyone.
The music industry is undergoing fundamental transformation through AI, and Suno sits at the forefront of this shift. The company's rapid growth and ambitious product roadmap create rare opportunities for engineers to shape a new medium while working on systems that impact millions of users daily.
We're looking for a Senior or Staff Full-Stack AI Engineer to join our small but intense engineering team in San Francisco. Your focus will be on building the backend systems and evaluation infrastructure that powers Suno's song creation agent—a system that takes plain-language requests, plans multi-step actions, and orchestrates calls to music models and audio tools. You'll work closely with ML engineers, product managers, and partner teams to ensure that our nondeterministic systems are reliable, measurable, and production-ready before anything ships to users.
What you'll do
- Build and maintain the backend infrastructure for an AI agent that handles multi-step planning and tool calling against music models and audio systems.
- Design evaluation frameworks, datasets, and release gates that determine whether changes to the agent are safe to ship, including making judgment calls on noisy results.
- Develop data pipelines that feed the agent and its evaluation systems, collaborating directly with ML engineers.
- Build internal tooling for running and reviewing evaluations, likely using TypeScript and React for frontend interfaces.
- Share on-call rotation and launch support responsibilities for a high-traffic production system, mentoring new team members as the team scales.
- Contribute to shipping features that help users transform creative ideas into finished music.
What you'll bring
- Four to six years of experience building and scaling backend systems in production, regardless of language, including work on services at scale with strong observability and on-call ownership.
- Hands-on experience shipping and operating an LLM-powered agent or feature in production for real users, with demonstrated competency in multi-step tool calling workflows.
- Experience designing and building evaluations for nondeterministic systems, such as regression test sets, custom graders, or LLM-based judges, and using results to inform shipping decisions.
- Ability to thrive on a small, production-focused team: comfortable with ambiguity, able to unblock yourself, and experienced working across engineering disciplines with ML engineers and product teams.
Nice to have
- Python backend development experience.
- Experience building internal dashboards and tools for model output review.
- Background working with audio, music, or media generation systems.
- Familiarity with LLM tracing and observability platforms.
What they offer
- Competitive equity package for full-time employees.
- Base salary range of 228K to 363K, varying by location, skills, and experience.
- Comprehensive health coverage including medical, dental, and vision (PPO with HSA and FSA options), 401(k) with 3% employer match and Roth option, 11 paid holidays plus unlimited PTO and sick time, 16 weeks paid parental leave, creative education stipend, commuter allowance, and daily in-office lunch.
Pay, location & hours
$228K–363K / year. Based in San Francisco (Hybrid).
