Staff Product Designer, DeFi

You'll join as Staff Product Designer for DeFi, setting the experience strategy across DeepBook's financial stack—spot trading, margin, prediction markets, liquidity workflows, and the products connecting users and builders to onchain finance on Sui. This is a leadership role requiring exceptional design judgment, people skills, and deep fluency in financial markets and DeFi mechanics.

What you'll do

• Set design vision, principles, and priorities in close partnership with product, engineering, and business leaders, owning the full end-to-end experience across DeepBook spot, margin, prediction products, and related first-party applications.

• Lead design of critical journeys including onboarding, funding, market discovery, order entry, transaction review and signing, portfolio and position management, collateral, liquidation risk, settlement, and recovery from failed states.

• Design for diverse audiences—retail traders, experienced DeFi users, market makers, liquidity providers, institutions, and developers—while maintaining a cohesive product experience.

• Stay hands-on in highest-priority work: frame problems, develop concepts, prototype, test, and review implementation quality.

• Build a scalable design system with shared interaction patterns for dense financial data, charts, tables, order entry, account states, alerts, and risk communication.

• Establish a research program using interviews, usability studies, product analytics, support feedback, and market observation to drive adoption, execution quality, retention, and trust.

• Partner with engineering to understand protocol behavior, transaction states, latency, data dependencies, security boundaries, and platform constraints.

• Work across legal, security, marketing, business development, and ecosystem teams to launch responsibly and communicate financial concepts accurately.

What you'll bring

• 10+ years of product design experience with demonstrated leadership in hiring, developing, and scaling design teams within fast-moving organizations.

• A portfolio showcasing both exceptional individual craft and leadership impact across complex, data-dense products.

• Experience designing for trading, investing, fintech, payments, crypto, or marketplaces where users make high-consequence decisions.

• Fluency in DeFi: real experience using onchain products and discussing swaps, order books, liquidity, routing, slippage, collateral, leverage, liquidation, settlement, smart-contract risk, and transaction signing.

• Strong product judgment with a track record of shaping strategy, prioritization, and product decisions alongside product and engineering partners.

• Skills across interaction design, information architecture, visual design, prototyping, research, and systems thinking.

• Experience building design systems and operating practices that improve consistency and delivery across multiple product lines.

Nice to have

• Design leadership on exchanges, order books, derivatives, margin products, prediction markets, wallets, or institutional trading platforms.

• Exposure to both retail and professional trading interfaces including charts, market data, portfolio analytics, and execution workflows.

• Familiarity with Sui, Move, programmable transaction blocks, DeepBook, or object-based blockchain architectures.

• Background designing in legally complex or regulated financial categories.

This is a full-time, remote role (USA-based). Employment requires successful completion of a background check.
