Roles on our board in California
Good to know
- California's personal exemption credit and other credits are not included, so the real state tax is usually a little lower.
- SDI (1.3%) is withheld from employee (W-2) wages with no cap since 2024. Contractors don't pay it unless they opt in.
- FTB posts the complete 2026 rates in late December; we'll re-check them then.
- Employee or contractor. Employees pay 6.2% Social Security (up to $184,500 of wages in 2026) and 1.45% Medicare; the employer pays the other half. Contractors pay both halves as self-employment tax (15.3% on 92.35% of earnings) and deduct half of it. Many remote Web3 and AI roles are contracts.
- Tokens. Token grants are usually taxed as ordinary income when they vest or are received, at their value then. They are not in this calculator; confirm your own case with a CPA.
- What is simplified. Standard deduction only: no credits, no itemized deductions, no 401(k) or health insurance, no qualified business income deduction for contractors, one earner per household. Your real tax can be lower or higher.
- Tax year. All numbers are for income earned in 2026 (taxes filed in 2027).
