Background Investigator

CertiK is a blockchain security company founded in 2018 by Yale and Columbia University professors. Using advanced AI technology, the company secures and monitors blockchain protocols and smart contracts for leading projects like Aave, Polygon, and Binance Smart Chain. With backing from top-tier venture capital firms and industry players, CertiK has become the market leader in Web3 security services.

The company is looking for a Background Investigator to join the Product team on a remote basis across Europe. In this role, you'll manage the delivery of CertiK's KYC badge product, a verification service that establishes trust within Web3 project teams. You'll be the bridge between CertiK and client teams, conducting thorough background assessments and determining appropriate verification levels.

What you'll do

• Conduct detailed behavioral interviews with project team members to assess risks and spot inconsistencies
• Perform OSINT investigations using open-source information to verify claims with limited initial data
• Guide clients through the KYC submission process, helping them prepare and submit identification documents
• Evaluate and document findings clearly to support badge issuance decisions at the appropriate tier
• Communicate badge status updates and compliance requirements to project teams
• Create thought leadership content around KYC practices and investigations in the Web3 space

What you'll bring

• At least 3 years of professional experience in investigations, KYC, compliance, or similar roles
• Proven ability to conduct complex behavioral interviews and extract critical information from conversations
• Strong grasp of KYC regulations, AML/CFT laws, and compliance frameworks
• Fluency in OSINT methodologies and familiarity with Web3 social media platforms, particularly X/Twitter
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present findings clearly
• Self-directed work style, strong organizational skills, and comfort managing multiple priorities independently
• Genuine interest in cryptocurrency and the Web3 ecosystem

Nice to have

• Direct experience working in Web3 or blockchain environments
• Familiarity with identity verification systems and document authentication processes
