Communications Manager, Safeguards

This position sits within Anthropic's Communications team and focuses specifically on the Safeguards and Trust & Safety function. You'll develop and execute messaging strategies that help external audiences—including media, policymakers, researchers, and everyday users—understand how Anthropic approaches AI safety. This is a chance to shape how a leading AI company communicates about responsible technology development during a critical period for the industry.

What you'll do

• Build and implement communication strategies that explain Anthropic's Safeguards work with emphasis on making safety measures understandable to general audiences

• Handle both proactive campaigns and reactive crisis communications, advising stakeholders across the organization on potential risks and issues

• Own communications strategy for product safety initiatives, including model launches, new features, and focus areas like child safety and mental health

• Lead cross-functional projects that align communications across safeguards, research, product, policy, and legal teams

• Develop messaging for major company announcements and milestones that resonates with both technical and non-technical audiences

• Cultivate relationships with journalists and key influencers in the AI and technology space

• Manage executive interviews and speaking opportunities

What you'll bring

• At least 8 years of communications experience, preferably at a high-growth technology company with consumer-facing products

• Demonstrated success building proactive communications campaigns that connect with diverse audiences

• Exceptional ability to translate complex technical concepts into compelling messaging for everyday people, with strong written and verbal communication skills

• Proven expertise in media relations and issues management

• Experience collaborating with research teams and working across technical and non-technical departments

• Strong results orientation with flexibility and a focus on measurable impact

• Genuine commitment to ensuring transformative AI systems develop safely

Nice to have

• Background in AI, technology policy, trust and safety communications, or user safety work

• Direct experience working alongside researchers, engineers, or product development teams

• Track record managing crisis communications or sensitive public issues

• Experience communicating about emerging or controversial technologies

• Understanding of the AI safety, security, and responsible technology landscape

What they offer

• Annual salary range of $265,000 to $295,000 USD

• Visa sponsorship available for qualified candidates

• Hybrid arrangement requiring at least 25% in-office time at San Francisco or New York locations

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience required
