About the role

Anthropic is a leading artificial intelligence safety company focused on building reliable, interpretable AI systems that benefit society. The organization brings together researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders in a fast-growing environment dedicated to developing safe and beneficial AI technology.

The Finance team at Anthropic is looking for a Director of Financial Reporting to lead special projects and help shape how the company approaches financial reporting at scale. This is a hands-on role where you will own critical external reporting functions while building workflows and automation powered by Claude that make financial reporting faster, more accurate, and more scalable. You will work closely with Technical Accounting, Controllership, Tax, Legal, FP&A, Corporate Development, and external auditors to ensure accuracy and compliance across all reporting requirements.

What you'll do

  • Own the consolidated statement of cash flows end to end, including preparation, supporting schedules, classification analysis under ASC 230, non-cash disclosures, and coordination with external auditors
  • Lead subsidiary and compliance-related reporting such as entity-level financial statements, lender and covenant reporting, and regulatory or contractual reporting requirements
  • Guide the adoption of new accounting standards, including impact assessment, system changes, disclosure drafting, controls, and auditor coordination
  • Manage stock-based compensation reporting, including expense and award-activity roll-forwards
  • Contribute to SEC filing preparation and review for Forms 10-Q and 10-K, including related disclosures
  • Drive peer disclosure benchmarking through proactive review of competitor disclosures and assessment of Anthropic's position
  • Build Claude-powered reporting workflows and document processes so the broader team can use and extend them
  • Identify and implement automation opportunities to improve reporting accuracy and efficiency

What you'll bring

  • Hands-on experience owning cash flow statements, including preparation and audit support under US GAAP standards
  • Background in subsidiary, statutory, or compliance-related reporting such as entity-level financial statements or regulatory filings
  • Demonstrated experience using Claude or similar AI tools to build financial reporting workflows or automation
  • Strong working knowledge of US GAAP, SEC reporting requirements, Regulation S-X, and Regulation S-K
  • Clear communication skills with the ability to explain complex accounting concepts to non-accounting stakeholders
  • Sound judgment, comfort with ambiguity, ability to prioritize, and track record of meeting filing deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Commitment to Anthropic's mission to build safe, transformative AI systems

Nice to have

  • 12 or more years of experience in financial reporting, SEC reporting, or public accounting at a public company or one preparing to go public
  • Experience building or running a peer disclosure benchmarking program using EDGAR or XBRL data
  • Experience with international statutory reporting or consolidation of special-purpose entities
  • CPA or equivalent certification

What they offer

  • Annual salary range of 230,000 to 300,000 USD
  • Hybrid arrangement requiring at least 25% office time in San Francisco or Seattle (some roles may require more)
  • Visa sponsorship available with support from retained immigration counsel
