Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Money Movement)

Phantom is building the world's leading self-custodial crypto wallet, connecting tens of millions of users globally to open financial markets. You'll join as a Senior Backend Engineer focused on money movement, architecting and maintaining the backend services and APIs that connect Phantom Cash to blockchains. This role sits at the intersection of systems thinking and product reality: you'll design reliable, scalable infrastructure while staying pragmatic about shipping features that users need. You understand client-server architecture and blockchain protocols equally well, balancing dependability with speed.

What you'll do

• Design, build and evolve backend services and APIs that handle money movement across multiple blockchains
• Work with Node.js and NestJS at scale, implementing event-driven patterns including queues, retries and idempotency
• Build and maintain REST APIs with proper versioning, pagination, error handling, authentication and rate-limiting
• Tackle distributed systems challenges: concurrency, ordering, retries and data consistency
• Communicate across engineering teams, document thoroughly and mentor others to raise the bar
• Anticipate problems, push features to completion and explain complexity simply to stakeholders

What you'll bring

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent hands-on technical experience
• Pragmatic engineering mindset: you prioritize results and user impact over abstract perfection
• Strong Node.js and NestJS experience at scale, with deep knowledge of event-driven architecture
• Solid grasp of REST API design patterns and full-stack state management trade-offs
• Distributed systems fundamentals including concurrency, ordering and data consistency
• Proactive problem-solving: you anticipate blockers and ship without waiting for perfect specs
• Clear communication skills that translate complexity for different audiences

Nice to have

• Kubernetes, AWS operations, CI/CD pipelines and observability tooling
• Active interest in crypto: you follow ecosystem changes, wallet standards and security norms
• Previous experience shipping at crypto or fintech companies (exchanges, wallets, payment systems)
• Smart contract and protocol knowledge, especially how on-chain programs integrate with off-chain services
• Blockchain integration experience, preferably Solana or EVM networks
• Track record shipping high-quality products in mature, high-bar engineering organizations
