About the role
Anthropic is an AI safety company building reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. The team brings together researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders focused on creating AI that benefits users and society. The company is growing rapidly and expanding its operational footprint globally, which has created an opportunity to professionalize how the organization manages its technical infrastructure.
The organization's mission centers on ensuring artificial intelligence systems are safe and beneficial. As the company scales, this commitment extends to how internal systems and collaboration tools support the team's work, with particular attention to security, reliability, and the ability to manage complex deployments across multiple office locations.
You'll join the Security team as an AV Engineer focused on Platform and Automation, where you'll build and maintain the software infrastructure that powers Anthropic's collaboration systems. You'll be responsible for turning a growing collection of APIs, device management platforms, and control systems into reliable, well-engineered tooling that a small team can manage at scale. This is hands-on engineering work where you'll write, ship, and operate code that enables the organization to support fast growth without adding proportional headcount.
What you'll do
- Design and deploy internal tools and integrations that monitor, test, and manage AV and collaboration systems across all office locations, catching failures before they affect users
- Build automated fleet health monitoring and room testing systems that generate actionable tickets and reduce manual troubleshooting
- Develop integrations across device platforms and APIs including Q-SYS, Logitech Sync, Google Meet hardware, digital signage, and enterprise systems like Jira, Slack, PagerDuty, and Google Workspace
- Automate operational work such as provisioning, configuration management, drift detection, and certificate renewal through maintainable, testable code
- Establish and enforce engineering practices for the team including source control, code review, testing, CI/CD, and release management, bringing AV configuration under version control
- Operate internal tools as production services with monitoring, alerting, and runbooks, ensuring no single person is a bottleneck
- Enable non-developer team members including AV Operations and Production staff to contribute safely through templates, guardrails, and guided review processes
What you'll bring
- Ten or more years of experience in AV, collaboration, or IT systems engineering, with at least four years of production code development that others depend on
- Proficiency in at least one general-purpose language such as Python, Lua, Go, or TypeScript, plus comfort with shell scripting
- Solid grasp of engineering fundamentals including Git workflows, code review, automated testing, CI/CD, logging, and observability practices
- Working knowledge of how AV and collaboration systems function: DSP and control, conferencing platforms, room devices, signal flow, and AV-over-IP architecture
- Hands-on experience building integrations against REST APIs, webhooks, and vendor SDKs, including handling authentication, rate limits, pagination, and retry logic
- Track record of owning tools and services in production over their lifecycle, from initial development through maintenance and handoff
- Ability to define engineering practices for teams where most contributors are not developers
- Judgment to prioritize operational pain points and scope tooling appropriately
Nice to have
- Experience with Q-SYS Lua scripting and plugin development, Logitech Sync and CollabOS, or Google Meet hardware administration
- Familiarity with Google Workspace APIs, GCP services, Terraform, or similar infrastructure-as-code tools
- Background in Crestron, Extron, or comparable control system programming
- Knowledge of Dante, AES67, NDI, network fundamentals for AV-over-IP, multicast, VLANs, and QoS
- Experience building with LLMs, agentic automation, or MCP integrations
- Prometheus, Grafana, or comparable monitoring stacks and containerized deployment
What they offer
- Full-time position based in San Francisco or New York City with 50% in-office expectation
- Up to four weeks of annual travel for platform deployments, office launches, and on-site testing
- Business-hours escalation support responsibility for owned tools and platforms
