IT Systems Engineer, Client Platform Engineer, macOS

Anthropic · Remote (Boston, MA, Friendly, Travel-Required, San Francisco, CA, Seattle, WA, New York City, NY, Washingto…) · Full-time
Salary not listed

About the role

Anthropic is an AI safety company focused on building reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. Their mission centers on ensuring AI is safe and beneficial for users and society, with a team of researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders collaborating on this foundational challenge. As AI capabilities advance, securing the infrastructure that supports their work becomes increasingly critical.

The Security team is hiring a platform engineer to own Anthropic's device fleet as a production service. You'll manage an endpoint infrastructure that spans thousands of macOS machines, Linux systems, and a growing mobile footprint. This role combines infrastructure operations, security hardening, and automation to ensure every device meets security standards while remaining productive for employees.

What you'll do

  • Author, review, and progressively roll out MDM policies, configuration profiles, and remediation scripts across macOS and mobile platforms, with canary stages and automated rollback capabilities
  • Operate the MDM platform itself as a production service, including infrastructure as code, observability, upgrades, and incident response
  • Build and maintain patch management automation that enforces updates on rapid timelines while preserving user experience
  • Design zero-touch provisioning workflows that prepare new devices for immediate productivity on day one
  • Transform fleet telemetry into actionable policies, dashboards, and drift detection systems; explore using Claude to automate manual operational work
  • Collaborate with Corporate Security on endpoint hardening, binary authorization, and compliance controls that meet Anthropic's Responsible Scaling Policy requirements
  • Join the on-call rotation to handle incoming requests, escalations, and complex endpoint issues

What you'll bring

  • Eight or more years building secure IT systems in complex, multi-team environments
  • Proven experience managing macOS device fleets of thousands through modern MDM platforms
  • Fluency in Python and shell scripting for infrastructure and automation
  • Deep knowledge of macOS internals including launchd, configuration profiles, TCC, and system extensions
  • Approach to endpoint configuration as version-controlled, peer-reviewed code rather than console-based management
  • Ability to write clear design documentation and runbooks that enable team collaboration

Nice to have

  • Experience operating an MDM platform as a service rather than only consuming it
  • Familiarity with open source endpoint tools like Munki, osquery, or AutoPkg
  • Background building automated, progressive rollout systems with telemetry-gated promotion
  • Experience with infrastructure as code in public cloud environments
  • Linux administration skills covering packaging, systems, and configuration management
  • Track record using LLMs to streamline operational workflows

What they offer

  • Annual compensation of 285,000 to 325,000 USD
  • Visa sponsorship available with immigration support
  • Hybrid work arrangement with expectation of office presence at least 25% of the time across Boston, San Francisco, Seattle, New York City, or Washington locations
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience required

Pay, location & hours
