Holepunch, Tether's peer-to-peer technology division, is building the foundational stack that powers secure, decentralized communications and data sharing. The team maintains an extensive ecosystem of over 1500 npm modules and develops modular, production-grade software that underpins distributed systems at global scale.

Tether is hiring a Senior Node.js Software Engineer to join the Holepunch team on a fully remote basis. You'll take ownership of core components within the P2P technology stack, contributing to both the architecture and expansion of distributed systems that serve millions of users. This is a full-time position open to candidates worldwide.

What you'll do

• Develop and maintain production-scale Node.js applications within the P2P ecosystem
• Design, build, and publish reusable npm modules that serve the broader developer community
• Write clean, modular code that prioritizes maintainability and long-term scalability
• Implement comprehensive testing and debugging strategies to ensure reliability
• Optimize network protocols and systems for performance, focusing on latency and throughput improvements
• Collaborate asynchronously with a globally distributed engineering team

What you'll bring

• Extensive production experience building and shipping Node.js applications at scale
• Demonstrated expertise creating and managing reusable npm packages
• Strong foundation in software testing, debugging, and performance optimization
• Deep familiarity with peer-to-peer technologies, distributed systems, or both
• Comfort communicating clearly and working autonomously within remote, multicultural teams
• Advanced networking knowledge and systems-level thinking

Nice to have

• Experience building native Node.js extensions using C or C++, or binding JavaScript to lower-level code
• Track record optimizing network protocols for throughput and latency
• Open source contributions, particularly in P2P or decentralized technology spaces
