What you'll do
- Direct mechanical design and architecture strategy for new product generations, making complex trade-offs between component integration, antenna performance, PCB layout, connectors and structural requirements.
- Own CAD development in SolidWorks or equivalent tools, incorporating geometric dimensioning and tolerancing best practices across designs.
- Define, plan and validate reliability testing specifications, then drive manufacturing processes from mold design through tooling execution.
- Lead design-for-manufacturability initiatives and partner directly with contract manufacturers to ensure production readiness and quality delivery.
- Shape the color, material and finish strategy for Ledger devices, balancing product vision with industrial design and manufacturing constraints.
- Prototype, troubleshoot and debug hardware in laboratory settings; conduct teardown analysis and present technical choices and trade-offs to leadership.
- Build and mentor the mechanical engineering team, establishing best practices and developing junior engineers.
- Communicate across hardware, firmware and product teams to ensure coordinated program delivery.
What you'll bring
- Seven or more years designing consumer electronics, medical devices, wearables, telecom equipment or IoT products at scale.
- Proven track record shipping products successfully to market with demonstrated experience launching tools and processes at scale.
- Advanced CAD proficiency in SolidWorks, Creo or Onshape, with strong command of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Expert-level knowledge of tolerance analysis including arithmetic and statistical methods; ability to plan, conduct and review statistical process control studies.
- Hands-on troubleshooting capability in lab and production environments, combined with natural leadership skills and ability to inspire team growth.
- Comfort navigating fast-paced environments, uncertainty and ongoing change.
