Senior Manager, Compute Accounting

As Anthropic expands its computing infrastructure across multiple cloud providers, the company is seeking a Senior Manager of Compute Accounting to establish financial controls and accounting processes for rapidly growing cloud and compute spend.

In this role based in San Francisco or Seattle, you will own the complete accounting lifecycle for compute and cloud infrastructure expenses. You'll manage everything from contract review and technical accounting assessment through monthly close procedures, accruals, prepaids, accounts payable reconciliation, expense classification, and commitment tracking. This is a full-time position where you'll work directly with Engineering, Legal, Procurement, and Finance teams to ensure accounting implications are understood before major commitments are made, and you'll serve as the subject matter expert on compute accounting across the organization.

What you'll do

• Manage the entire accounting process for compute and cloud infrastructure costs, including reconciliations, accruals, prepaids, journal entries, and variance analysis through monthly close

• Review and interpret cloud service provider contracts to determine proper accounting treatment, track commitments, and ensure compliance with agreement terms

• Apply technical accounting expertise to complex compute arrangements under ASC 842, including embedded lease identification, lease versus service classification, and measurement assessments

• Design and implement accrual and prepayment processes for capacity reservations, savings plans, and committed-use discounts across multiple cloud providers

• Build scalable accounting processes, controls, and reporting systems that grow with the organization and provide visibility into compute spending patterns

• Lead accounts payable and vendor statement reconciliation efforts with cloud service providers to resolve discrepancies

• Serve as the primary contact with external auditors on compute cost accounting and commitment disclosure matters

• Lead process transformation and automation initiatives, including redesigned close workflows, automated data pipelines, and AI-driven tooling

What you'll bring

• CPA or equivalent credential with deep GAAP expertise and strong technical accounting capabilities

• Substantial experience accounting for cloud service or compute infrastructure expenses and reviewing associated contracts

• Working knowledge of ASC 842 applied to compute, infrastructure, or data center arrangements, including embedded leases and lease classifications

• Understanding of cloud service provider cost structures and the unique challenges of consumption-based billing

• Proven ability to translate complex contracts into proper accounting treatment and communicate financial impacts to non-finance partners

• Track record building accounting processes, controls, and policies in high-growth environments

• Proficiency with modern ERP systems such as NetSuite, Workday, or Oracle

Nice to have

• 10 or more years of progressive accounting experience

• Experience mentoring and developing accounting professionals

• SQL and BigQuery skills for direct data analysis and validation

• Python proficiency for building automation and analytical tools

• Background at cloud service providers, data center operators, or technology companies with usage-based business models
