Senior Node.js Software Engineer - Holepunch (100% Remote, Worldwide)

You would join an engineering team building peer-to-peer technology that prioritizes security, privacy, and efficient global communication. This role focuses on strengthening the core platform that powers their distributed systems work.

What you'll do

• Develop and maintain the P2P stack while expanding the ecosystem of over 1500 public npm modules
• Build production-scale applications using Node.js with emphasis on modular architecture
• Create and manage reusable npm packages that serve the broader development community
• Design and optimize network protocols, systems latency, and throughput for distributed environments
• Write comprehensive tests and debug complex issues across the platform
• Collaborate asynchronously with a globally distributed engineering team

What you'll bring

• Proven track record shipping production Node.js applications at scale
• Strong ability to write modular, maintainable code that other developers can easily understand and extend
• Solid expertise in testing methodologies and debugging techniques
• Genuine interest in peer-to-peer technologies, distributed systems, or decentralized architecture
• Comfortable working fully remote across different time zones with strong written communication skills
• Self-direction and ownership mentality when building infrastructure projects

Nice to have

• Experience developing native Node.js extensions using C or C++, or binding JavaScript to lower-level code
• Track record optimizing network protocols and distributed systems for performance
• Familiarity with advanced networking concepts and architectural patterns
• Open-source contributions, particularly in peer-to-peer or decentralized technology projects
