About the role
Gemini is a publicly traded crypto and Web3 platform founded in 2014 that serves individuals and institutions across more than 70 countries. The company operates at the intersection of traditional finance and the emerging cryptoeconomy, with a mission to provide trusted access to decentralized systems and unlock greater financial and personal freedom at scale.
The Platform team at Gemini exists to enable the broader engineering organization to build, deploy, and operate services reliably and efficiently. Rather than building customer-facing products, you'll build internal infrastructure and developer tools that allow product and engineering teams to focus on innovation. The team treats internal platforms as production software with real users, documented SLOs, and feedback loops.
This Staff Platform Engineer role offers deep technical leadership across the full stack of Gemini's infrastructure. You'll shape strategy and execution for cloud infrastructure, networking, compute, storage, CI/CD pipelines, and the systems needed to run highly available services in production. You report directly to engineering leadership and work across product, application engineering, data, and security teams to translate operational needs into reliable platform products.
Your day-to-day work spans
- Setting technical direction for platform capabilities and contributing to long-term planning around cloud, networking, delivery systems, and reliability engineering
- Leading architecture recommendations throughout the software development lifecycle, from design through production operation
- Designing and building platform services, APIs, CLIs, controllers, and automation primarily in Go, TypeScript, Python, or similar languages; owning them end-to-end from design through production
- Creating self-service workflows and capabilities so engineers can provision environments, deploy services, and manage infrastructure without manual platform intervention
- Establishing standard development workflows including templates, libraries, deployment automation, and policy-as-code
- Building and improving core infrastructure building blocks for compute, storage, identity, and networking across public clouds and regions
- Operating network infrastructure including routing, connectivity, traffic management, and security controls
- Designing observability, alerting, and capacity planning systems; leading incident response and turning recurring operational work into permanent improvements
You bring deep production and infrastructure engineering experience. You've designed and operated scalable systems at meaningful scale and understand the tradeoffs between reliability, performance, cost, and developer experience. You're comfortable with infrastructure-as-code and have hands-on experience with container orchestration, cloud platforms, and distributed systems. You can write software fluently in Go, TypeScript, or Python. You have experience with modern build tooling like Bazel or Buck2. Beyond technical skills, you're a leader who can shape strategy, communicate clearly with non-engineers, and drive adoption of platform capabilities across teams.
This role is remote, with flexibility for team members based in New York, Miami, or elsewhere in Florida. Full-time employment.
